Who we are?

Hello, I'm Sean Cragin. I am the founder of Cragin's Building Automation Systems (CBAS). I started this company alongside my brother Scott Cragin and our friend Anthony Montoya. We created CBAS to fill the void for building automation in small and medium sized buildings. Our goal is to make any building a smart building.
We have spent many years working to get to this point. My brother and I were introduced at a young age on how a commercial buildings and its occupants operates. While growing up we would work with our parents who own Cragin's Construction Company during summers and on weekends. Their company specializes in commercial and industrial construction. As young teenagers our father would have us sweep, paint and assisted other workers in making their jobs run smoothy. He instilled in us the importance of making sure everything was safe for everyone in the building by picking up tools, moving extension cords so there would not be any hazards. Our father would take us around the buildings to show us how they were built and the ins and outs of how everything runs. During our high school years we were home schooled which allowed us more freedom to study architecture, building codes and computer technology. The majority of our school work was on the computer, which interested Scott and I to start rebuilding and building new computers since our school programs would run slow. As the years passed we learned first hand about our parents business, it inspired our collective skills to expand and drove us to be able to do more for our clients. In the start of 2017, that's when we looked into automation.
Once we started expanding into automation systems, we began with the basics and more common automations. We worked with timers, temperature controls, occupancy switches. We then worked our way up to more intricate automations that included access control systems, energy monitoring systems and lighting controls that would save up to 75% on electricity compared to the previous lighting system. Through the years we learned and worked on other automation systems and discovered most of these systems would not be cost effective enough to be installed in small or medium sized buildings. In some cases the cost for the system would be close to the price of the building. We searched for different options that would make a building automated at an affordable price than other companies were charging. After years of researching, we found several open source software's that would work. We spent a year taking these programs and combining them together to make an affordable building automation system that would be tailored to each building and occupants needs. A system that is secure, works with many devices and can work without an internet connection because we believe any building can be a smart building.
